We employ the same hand-wiping and etching techniques practiced by Rembrandt, Piranesi, and the master cartographers of the 17th century.
Polished mirror-finish copper is coated with asphaltum resist. Using diamond-tipped steel needles, the artist draws every topographical ridge, creek line, and letter into the ground. The plate is then submerged in Dutch mordant acid baths to bite channels of precise microscopic depth.
Dense oil pigment is worked into every etched groove on a warming plate. The printer then meticulously wipes the surface by hand using starched tarlatan gauze, finishing with the palm of the bare hand dusted in whiting chalk to leave the highlights pristine.
Heavy 400gsm cotton paper is soaked in pure water to relax its fibers. Laid over the inked copper plate and shielded beneath pure woven wool blankets, it passes through the steel cylinder under tremendous pressure, drawing ink out of the copper onto the paper.
Prints are dried between archival blotters under heavy boards for two weeks to cure perfectly flat. Each verified proof receives the Moret Ink blind-embossed studio chop, hand-numbered edition mark, and archival certificate of origin.

Intaglio is the classical Renaissance printmaking discipline where an image is incised or acid-etched into a heavy copper matrix plate. Rich bone-black or sepia oil inks are hand-worked into the grooves, surface-wiped with tarlatan cloth, and passed through a rolling steel bed press under tons of pressure onto dampened 100% cotton rag paper. The result creates characteristic three-dimensional ink ridges and an elegant plate embossment.

Yes. Upon completion of the contracted limited edition run, patrons can choose to have the etched copper plate delivered in a polished presentation shadowbox with an archival canceling stamp or retained in our climate-vault for future preservation.
